Cycle Terms & Conditions

ELECTRIC BICYCLES E bikes are delivered with a full battery. Maximum weight of rider 300 lbs/136 kilos/20 stone. E-bikes must be returned with fully charged battery if kept overnight or a surcharge may apply. Our E-bikes comply fully with Guernsey -regulations (motor not exceeding the power to propel up to 15mph and pedal assisted) the hirer must not exceed local speed limits. Only to be used by a person 14 years and over. By booking and using the E-bike the hirer accepts these T & Cs and declares themselves to be competent and understand how to use an E-bike, (instructions on HOW TO page www.go-guernsey.gg) A deposit may be taken for E-bikes. E bikes may be fitted with a tracking system that is constantly in use.


HIRE AGREEMENT Bikes and equipment can only be hired from GGLS on accepting T & Cs and in doing so and/or by using the bike/s you confirm that you have read and understood the T & Cs and agree, irrespective of whether payment occurs before or after acceptance of the bike/s.  Upon such acceptance, a binding contract is formed between you and GGLS.  You must be over 18 to enter into a hire agreement. Hirer must confirm that all members of the party are fit and well and not suffering from any medical condition or disability which could adversely affect normal control of the bike.


PAYMENT A booking is not confirmed until full payment is made. The hire total is to be paid before the period of hire commences.  Credit/debit cards may incur a payment system charge. We reserve the right to charge for any damage caused by hirer negligence.


RENTAL PERIOD No 24 hour hire.  The hire period commences on the day the bike/s and equipment is/are booked.  All hire is subject to availability.  Late return/extended hire will be charged for at the normal rate for that hire period.


BIKES AND EQUIPMENT Brakes on bikes are UK standard (right = front, left = rear), always familiarise before cycling. The hirer understands that the hire bike/s may be unfamiliar and when using the bike/s for the first time will therefore check you are in agreement with your choice. We ask our customers to treat our equipment responsibly.  You undertake to ride carefully and sensibly at all times.  It is your responsibility to keep the equipment safe from damage, loss or theft, use it in a proper manner and not subject it to any misuse or unfair wear and tear.  You should ensure that the bike is always locked to a fixed object when unattended or to a 2nd hire bike or through the front wheel and frame in lieu of this.  You are responsible to set up the bike seat and height into a safe and comfortable cycling position, you must not adjust or alter anything else on the bike without permission from GGLS.


ROAD SAFETY Bikes must not be ridden on the beach, cliff paths, nature trails, L’Ancresse Common, pavements or taken out of the island.  It is your responsibility to ensure that you do not violate any local laws and cycle where cycling is permitted only.  You undertake not to operate the bike or permit the bike to be operated whilst unfit through drink or drugs or with blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.  Do not cycle within hours of darkness unless lights have been booked. HELMETS Helmets are provided free with every hire and the hirer is responsible for adjustment, (instructions on HOW TO page www.go-guernsey.gg) The hirer understands and accepts that GGLS strongly recommend all adults and children wear them.  It is the hirer’s responsibility to ensure children wear the helmet provided. We cannot be held responsible for any damage or injuries sustained as a result of a customer not wearing a helmet.or wearing a helmet that they have not correctly adjusted to fit.


CANCELLATION/AMMENDMENTS Can be done either by phone or email. GGLS will refund 80% of a cancelled booking with a minimum notice period of 24 hours. For a booking cancelled within 24 hours, full payment will be taken. GGLS also reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, whether for safety reasons or otherwise, to cancel a bike hire booking. In the unlikely event of such cancellation, GGLS will offer the hirer an option to reschedule any booking to an alternative date, or a full refund, but we shall otherwise have no liability whatsoever, including for consequential expenses, in respect of such cancellation. We reserve the right to charge £10 for any booking amendment with a minimum notice period of 24 hours, within 24 hours the amendment is not confirmed.


LIABILITY As the hirer, you understand that any cycling activity involves a certain element of risk.  Any person using GGLS’s equipment does so entirely at their own risk.  We do not accept any liability for death, personal injury, loss or damage to property beyond our legal obligations.  We cannot be held responsible for any damage caused by you, attributable to a third party or arising as a result of unusual or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control.  You agree to indemnify GGLS against any claim, interest, demand or expense in respect of any injury, loss or damage including for any damage caused by you to the bike or equipment hired. Damage due to hirer negligence will be charged for.


COMPLAINTS/BREAKDOWNS/HOURS In the unlikely event of a complaint/breakdown or if any problems with bikes or accessories are noticed, you must let us know immediately or as soon as reasonably possible by calling 07781 103692 (PLEASE LEAVE VOICEMAIL) with all details so that we have a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue. Our working hours are seasonal and can vary throughout the year. No breakdown service for empty battery, additional or missing extras, maps/guidebooks, missing basket, incorrect bike size due to incorrect height information supplied.


EXTRAS/ACCESSORIES To be booked at time of bike hire booking. It is the hirer’s responsibility to advise GGLS of damage or a problem. Panniers included free on e bikes are not guaranteed waterproof or to have zips and GGLS takes no responsibility for your personal items left on the bike/s. Baskets are included free on some step-through trekking bikes, this is not guaranteed on every bike.


CHILDRENS BIKES 16 inch wheel size bikes only to be used off-road. For children using a larger bike frame size on the road, it is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to ensure that they are confident and safe to use the bike on a public highway GGLS size and allocate childrens bikes and helmets according to the information you provide, if the given details of your child’s size are incorrect and we need to change a bike or helmet, this will depend on our delivery schedule and not on demand.
